Today I accept a set of letter H math activities to share! By coincidence, we were learning near the alphabetic character H during Valentine'due south week. So I establish a lot of middle math floating around the internet which I'm excited to share with y'all. We threw in hot chocolate, a house, and some hippos but to mix it up
ane – Counting, Ane-to-1 Correspondence – Hot Chocolate Counting Mats
Here's a simple, fun way to practice one-to-1 correspondence. Print out these colorful hot chocolate mats and have your child put the corresponding number of mini-marshmallows on each one. Meet my original mail service here.
2 – Recognizing Numbers – Centre Sticker Math
This is i of the easy but brilliant ideas you can notice over at Little Family Fun. I cut out a giant centre for my Two and ane for my 4. My Two had numbers one-10 on his center; my Four had numbers 11-xx. Then I called out a item number for my boys to cover with a heart sticker. A simple just constructive way to practise number recognition. Stickers make everything more fun.
3 – Counting, Number Sense – Count around the Business firm
Non only is this a great math action from No Time for Flashcards, but it's an energy burner too. I'm always looking for those in the middle of Feb! I drew a giant picture of a business firm and listed something I wanted my 4 and Five to count. They excitedly raced through the firm to count windows, chairs, closets, pianos… yes, we practise take three pianos. You don't really want the story backside that, practice you lot?
four – Estimation, Counting, Sorting – Jar of Hearts
Some other great idea from No Fourth dimension for Flash Cards! I took two jelly jars and filled them with foam hearts. Then I printed the activeness sheet for my big kids. Showtime they estimated how many hearts there were. Then they counted them, sorted them — and skillful writing their numbers too.
five – Ordering – Order the Hippos by Size
You can observe a lot of hippo math for preschoolers over at Confessions of a Homeschooler. I printed this set of colorful hippos and my Two arranged them in order from smallest to largest and largest to smallest. The last time I tried something like this he had no idea where to brainstorm. This time he needed less guidance. It'southward starting to click!
half-dozen – Recognizing Numbers – Musical Hearts
I really love this thought from Mom to 2 Posh Little Divas. I prepared a set of hearts for my Two and Four. If your kids are at the same level, you don't need different colors. Only since my boys are learning to recognize dissimilar numbers, I cut out orange for my Two and yellow for my Four (their favorite colors). On the back of my Two'south hearts were numbers from 1-ten. On the back of my Four'southward were the numbers eleven-twenty. We put the hearts in a circle and the boys marched around them until the music stopped.
And then they each had to pick up a nearby middle and read it. If they were correct, the heart was removed from the circumvolve. The only problem was that my 2 merely knows one,four, and 10, and he was not catching on. So the game would accept gone on forever had we not called it to a stop. Next time I would focus on the numbers he knows and but one or two unfamiliar ones.
7 – Shapes – Design Cake H
Very basic, but very cool. These great patterns are from Confessions of a Homeschooler. I printed and laminated the entire set. The pattern blocks are from my instruction days, but y'all tin get your own here.
8. Recognizing Numbers, Matching: Middle Scavenger Hunt
I promise you're even so reading, considering of all these math ideas, this i was my kids' favorite past far. It took a little fleck of prep time for me, but it was definitely worth information technology. I used a eye stencil and traced almost 10-12 hearts on each canvass of large paper. And so I cut out the same number of hearts — in dissimilar colors for each of my kids. My Two'southward board had the numbers 1-x; my Four's board focused on eleven-xx; my V's board had numbers from 100-1000. Then I hid the hearts all around the basement. Each child found his or her colored hearts and glued them to the matching heart on his or her board. They besides had to read the number to me when they brought it. This was another thought from Mom to 2 Posh Little Divas.
9. Skip Counting, Recognizing Numbers: Skip Counting with Stickers
Had enough of hearts? That's okay. Any kind of sticker will do. Nosotros put center stickers in groups of ten, then counted and labeled them by x's until we got all the way up to 100. You can read about it in my original post hither.
